UberEATS!

UberEATS just released their new app this past week! It's a one touch food delivery service. Order on your phone from hundreds of different restaurants for guaranteed delivery in 10 minutes or less!

Some of my photos are featured in the different restaurants that are participating!

Here's a sample of food offered by Dim Sum King:

Dim Sum King, Toronto

Shrimp dumplings - also known as Har Gow in Cantonese. This is usually a staple in dim sum.

Seafood Cantonese Chow Mein - I love Cantonese Chow Mein because the noodles are crispy! You can try it with chicken, beef, bbq pork or even vegetarian!

Another staple in dim sum - this is Sew Mai - steamed pork

Chicken buns! The more popular dim sum dish is bbq pork buns but this one is just as yummy!

Fried shrimp patties - always delicious

Steamed rice in Lotus Leaf -  usually there's some chicken or pork inside

Cher and Thomas's Engagement

I recently got to shoot engagement photos for a friend and old roommate of mine. We were roommates in Montreal and once we returned to Ontario it was a bit harder to keep in touch. I'd heard stories of her boyfriend and how'd they started dating but it wasn't until the engagement shoot that I got to see them together! It was so much fun and something special seeing the two of them together! I'm so happy for you guys and wish you the best!!!

Surf Dogs!

K-W Humane Society has an annual fundraiser called Surf Dogs. Owners can come with their furry friends to enjoy an afternoon at Bingemans wave pool. I attended this year's event and took some photos. There were so many dogs there! Michelle O'Driscoll, the volunteer co-chair or the event estimated that about 500 dogs were in attendance. It was a little cold today but many people still made it out!

Back to it!

View from the editorial floor of The Hamilton Spectator. Shot on iPhone 5s /Amanda Cheung.
Well I had a nice little vacation in Vancouver (which I will post about soon!) and now I'm back at the Spec...for only another day :(  My three weeks here have gone by so fast and I've learned so much. The photographers here are super talented and amazing at what they do. At the Ontario Newspaper Awards this past weekend...the Hamilton Spectator took a third of all the wins! #soproud

Even though I'm only an intern here, I feel like the people at the Spec really care about what they do and have been so willing to pass along their experiences.

As one photographer said to me, shooting at a daily is like archiving history, everyday you are documenting something and every photo you take becomes a part of history!

Here's my little input into history from today. I got to shoot the 10th Annual Special Olympics held at Saltfleet High School in Stoney Creek.

What a time it's been at the Hamilton Spectator so far! I've had the opportunity to shoot so many different happenings with some pretty talented photographers! On top of all the photos, I've also been able to make a whole bunch of videos on ATV training, seniors belly dancing, food trucks, how to make a planter and kids learning about agriculture! Here's a peak:

Internship at the Hamilton Spectator

It's almost been a week since I started my internship with the Hamilton Spectator and I've been having a blast!

I've got to shoot a variety of topics from the Bulldogs moving to Newfoundland to latex being injected into cadavers and to students studying for exams!

Hamilton is a great city and the longer I'm here, the more I'm falling in love with it!

Nana

I got the wonderful opportunity of meeting Kathy. She is a lovely lady. At 67, she is still playing hockey as a goalie in Kitchener Waterloo's Women Recreational Hockey League. She was kind enough to let me do a short video on her. Check it out :)

Best Friends

I came across these friends at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre. We had an assignment to find people who have been friends for over 7 years! It was tough looking for people but finally found this pair of fun-spirited friends!

I've been working on a project on comfort foods! February has been the coldest month in history and there's usually always something we like to fall back on for comfort. I wanted to explore that idea with food! I think everyone has such an interesting relationship with food! Here's a sneak peek:

This was published in an edition of our school's newspaper. The photo features Ruth and Thor, a lovely couple I met a Metro. They were so sweet!

This is just a work in progress and I'm still looking for more people to chat with and photograph! If you know anyone or are interested, let me know! :)

It's the start of my last semester

I can't believe how fast this program has gone by. It's unbelievable how much I have learned not only technically but about people and life. This program has challenged me so much in so many ways and I'm so thankful that I am here. As this last semester unfolds, I'm excited to see where it takes me!

This past week, one of our assignments for staff class was to take a photo of a small business owner in Belleville. What happens in staff class is, you get assigned at around 8:30am and you need to have your photo edited, printed and posted by 1pm that same day. It's a challenge with a time limit. I've never really done anything like that before so it gave a small taste of reality and definitely got my blood pumping!

I took a photo of Marina Boretski at the Boretski Gallery, a small gem in downtown Belleville. Marina sells many unique vintage items that include clothing, furniture and accessories! As a Loyalist College photojournalism community, I want to thank her so much for the kindness she gives us as students. She's been photographed so many times but yet each time, she is still so willing and so patient! I actually photographed her twice. It's cool for me seeing the difference between the two photos I took.

This was from my first year first semester. I think it was for lighting class where we had to use flash but make it look like we didn't. I just stuck her by a big window so the majority of light was natural.

This is the one I took of Marina again this past week for staff class:

I'm slowly learning what my style is and definitely learning to pay attention to the things in my frame.

If you ever have an inkling and want to be a photojournalist, go to Loyalist! We have absolutely the best faculty who put their heart and soul into your learning and success! I never heard of Belleville before coming here, but it charms you over time. It has its quirks that's for sure.

Off The Grid

This is a little late in posting but it was my final video project last year. I got in touch with a family that live in Thomasburg, right outside of Tweed, at the end of a road. They've chosen to live their lives intentionally, sustainably and off the grid. They have a farm and grow most of the food that they eat. I really enjoyed my time with them, getting to know them and being on their beautiful property.

Take a look :)
